Historically Hardcore

Do you have the misconception that history is boring? Well, art student Jenny Burrows and copywriter Matt Kapler have put together an ad campaign to convince you otherwise. Each ad compares a contemporary celebrity with a historical figure to show just how badass and awesome they really are.

I seriously love these. History is cool, maybe you just didn’t realize it yet! I love being a history major because you get to learn much more in depth and interesting tid bits than the normal history class would teach you.

Yay for history!!

on a sunday

We woke up to discover that it had snowed some in the night. But it had all melted away by the afternoon. I was able to crack the windows and let some fresh air in. Mauney cat was quite happy about this.

I pushed the window open even more so she could sit herself up on the ledge and enjoy it.

I spent the afternoon cleaning out my car, doing laundry, working on homework, changing sheets and washing dishes. Afterwards, I settled on the couch with my new book, “I Wonder,” by Marian Bantjes.

Photobucket

Marian is a typographic illustrator who was inspired by the ancient illuminations of manuscripts. Since typography and manuscript illumination are two of my top interests, I knew this book was the book for me.

The book is a funny, creative collection of observations on visual culture and design. Here’s a peak at some of the pages.

So far, I’m really enjoying it. I purchased my copy from Barnes and Noble. I highly recommend it.

In awhile, I’ll put some hamburger vegetable soup on the stove to cook, pick out something from my Netflix instant cue, and begin winding down for the evening.

How was your weekend?

They call me Mellow Yellow

I’m in such a horrible slump right now. With everything! I’ve lost all motivation for school whatsoever, the house is a mess and for once, I don’t care, I’m totally uninspired when it comes to cooking dinner, etc. I’m dying to get out of this rut. I’ve conjured up some bright and sunny items to hopefully chase my blah away!

What do you do to get out of a slump?

I’m noticing a pattern

I don’t think the weather can make up its mind. On March 20th, I posted about spring. On March 22nd, I posted about snow. On March 23rd, spring again and today it’s raining and has the potential to turn in to snow. I should be used to this kind of weather by now, but every year it drives me crazy! It’s just such a tease!

Well, that’s fine. I can be a tease too. I’ll just tease you with the following images of summer bliss! Enjoy!

And I just thought this next image was super cute. It’s kind of how I feel right now. Like the weather is saying, “You want sun? No way! Muahahahah!”

on my mind….my morning & spring recipes

I forgot that my morning class had been canceled today. I could have slept in, but instead, I now find myself at work two hours early, sipping green tea and lazily going through my list of projects to complete.

The snow has melted and little greens are popping up everywhere around our yard. I feel the excitement of spring coming on. Last night I spent some time gathering up some of my favorite spring recipes and looking for some new ones to try.

This recipe for Pear, Apple, and Fennel Salad from Cannelle et Vanille was looking especially yummy, light, and fresh. It just so happens that I have two pears in the fridge waiting to be eaten. I think I may have to try this over the weekend.

Spring is in the air

Coming back to blogging is nice. I’ve had so many things that I’ve wanted to share. The sun still hasn’t decided to come out from behind the clouds and there’s still a chill in the air, but I can feel that spring is just around the corner. I have tulips popping up in the front yard!
