The Evolution of Sharing

I brought Ash’s bed upstairs so she could get cozy in this chili winter weather. She loves her pillow.

There’s just one problem. Mauney loves her pillow too. She started stealing it. Every time Ash would go to lay down, Mauney would already be there.

Below is Mauney’s actual bed. She likes it quite a bit, but in the evening she prefers to be out in the living room with us and that’s where Ash’s bed is.

It took awhile, but they finally figured out that the pillow was big enough for the both of them. Now they begrudgingly happily share the space every evening.

But really Ash and Mauney have always been friends. They play fight with each other and Mauney likes to lick/groom Ash. It’s kind of funny to watch.

Henry has no interest in Ash’s bed. He just finds the nearest box and that suits him just fine.

A Day at the Park

So glad Ash and I were able to enjoy this fun day at the park before the weather got bad. (We woke up this morning to a fresh blanket of snow.)A few days ago I took Ash to one of her favorite parks. It’s huge and because it was a week day, we had the place to ourselves. She played frisbee for a while on the grassy field and then we walked down to the river. It was a warm enough day that she ran right in and waded around for awhile.

We never did get that last hike in before the snow, but this trip to the park was a great alternative.

Her Weekend

This weekend we spent some time in Logan for a friend’s wedding and then to visit Andy’s dad for Father’s Day. While we were up there we had dinner at Elements. So much food but it was all amazing! On Saturday we drove to Wyoming for Nellie’s 2nd Birthday party. Our family went in on a gift together and got her a slide since she’s been loving the slide at the park lately. Sunday I went to visit my friend Heather and see her new townhouse. We ate on the deck a couple of times this week and it’s been really nice weather. We’re trying to finish up a few things before we take off for California on Wednesday. I feel so tired today!

How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun?

A weeknight walk

Ashland has had some issues lately and when we took her to the vet the prescribed medication was “more physical and mental stimulation.” So we’ve been trying to get her more exercise and keep her from getting bored. It’s tough when you both work full time but it’s good for us all to get out and walk each night. We’re also trying to work her back into her normal Frisbee playing routine.

I loved this section of the walking trail near our house. It’s peaceful and very pretty. It’s a perfect little area of still semi-untouched farm land. Not much of that is still left around here.

Any tips for keeping Ash from getting bored while we’re at work all day?

Her {unexpected} Weekend

Another busy weekend. On Friday and Saturday Andy worked on the basement bathroom and helped a friend pour cement while my sister, Lindsey and I judged a dance competition. After the solo competition on Friday we went to dinner at Slackwater.

After a busy couple of days we thought we’d just be able to relax on Sunday. That morning we decided to take Ash hiking up above Ogden. We started at the 30th street trail head. We took a trail we’d never been on before.

We were just hiking along, minding our own business when along the side of the trail I spotted this cat!! We don’t have a clue how it got so far up there on the mountain.

But it’s really high up there. You can see the houses below. I decided to see if he would let me pet him. I figured if he was wild he’d get spooked and run off. But as I touched his head, he didn’t flinch a bit. I felt down the length of his body and the poor thing was skin and bones. That’s when I knew that he was someone’s lost pet. I decided to try to pick him up. I scooped him in my arms and he was just as weak as could be. When he nudged his little nose into the crook of my arm, I knew he was just so happy to have been found.

We couldn’t leave him up there to starve to death. We had to help him. I carried him the entire hike back down the mountain. He didn’t make a peep the whole way. He just kept kneading my arm with his paws. We got back to the car and he snuggled down in my lap. We tried to drive around the local neighborhoods looking for lost cat fliers but didn’t see anything so we finally just took him home.

We fed him some soft food and he wolfed that down quick as a wink. He was famished.

As soon as his tummy was full, he crawled over to our laps and snuggled down on us. He nudged his nose into us and kneaded us with his paws. He’d just the sweetest little lover-boy, ever. His poor claws are all broken off to little stubs. I’m not sure if he didn’t know how to hunt birds and other food up in the mountain or if he just couldn’t. There was a stream nearby, which I think, saved him.  I have no idea how long he had been stuck up there.

I’m certain he was on his last life when we found him. I’m taking him to the vet today to see if by some miracle he has a chip. We put some ads on KSL and I’ll put some fliers up in the area. We are hoping to find the owner, but we know there’s a slim chance of that. I won’t take him to a shelter, he’s too much of a sweetheart. If we can’t find the owner, we will try to find a good home for him. I would keep him myself if we didn’t already have two finicky cats.

In between nursing the kitty back to health on Sunday, I managed to get my pots planted. I think they’ll look nice when they fill out. They’re similar to what I did last year but not entirely the same. So that was our crazy weekend. This kitty has kind of thrown our routine out of whack but I’m very happy we were in the right place at the right time and able to help him. (If he is a ‘he.’ He’s too fluffy to tell so I’ll have to ask the vet.)

Anything crazy happen to you this weekend?

Andy snapped this picture the other day. Henry really likes my ergonomic pillow. It just fits his body so snug! I always come in the bedroom and find him snoozing on it. Well, some time in the middle of the night the other day, he decided that he wanted it. So he wriggled his way up there. Then all morning long he kept pushing my head with his feet trying to get me to give up the pillow entirely. I persevered but in the end I had relented over half of my pillow space to that furry little pillow snatcher. He knows he’s too cute to get in trouble.
