I am a list maker. I make lists of groceries, lists of chores, lists of books I want to read, lists of places I want to go, and the list goes on and on! So naturally, I thought it would be super fun to join up with Kathleen's Book of Lists project over at Kapachino.
Happy Thanksgiving
I have a thankful heart year round, but when the holidays roll around, I’m reminded even more of the wonderful things in my life. I have such fantastic friends and family who support and love me and are always there for me. I’m grateful that we get to spend time with some of them today.
I’m also grateful for the small space of internet that’s mine through Her Sunday and Bookmark To Blog. I love that I have a little platform in which I can blabber on about the little things that I like and think are important. I love that I have a small but loyal group of blogger friends who stop by here each week to see how I’m doing. This space of mine encourages me to be thoughtful and creative and gives me an outlet for whatever I feel like talking about.
Lately, life has brought me several awesome blessings in which I’m so so thankful for. This past year I’ve worked to notice the small things in life that I’m thankful for (like quiet time with a book) as well as the big things (like a new job and starting grad school.) So today, whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, I hope your day is full of things to be thankful for. Have a great day!
xoxo-Kimberly
The Evolution of Sharing
I brought Ash’s bed upstairs so she could get cozy in this chili winter weather. She loves her pillow.
There’s just one problem. Mauney loves her pillow too. She started stealing it. Every time Ash would go to lay down, Mauney would already be there.
Below is Mauney’s actual bed. She likes it quite a bit, but in the evening she prefers to be out in the living room with us and that’s where Ash’s bed is.
It took awhile, but they finally figured out that the pillow was big enough for the both of them. Now they begrudgingly happily share the space every evening.
But really Ash and Mauney have always been friends. They play fight with each other and Mauney likes to lick/groom Ash. It’s kind of funny to watch.
Henry has no interest in Ash’s bed. He just finds the nearest box and that suits him just fine.
This Happened
Lots going on around here! I’ve been accepted to San Jose State University. (The program is all online) I’ll be working on my Masters of Library & Information Science. I’m pretty stoked about it. Finally! I start in January and have to register tomorrow, so I’m also already feeling a little bit overwhelmed.
That’s not the only thing that’s new with me. I got a job offer on Saturday. I’m now the “Assistant Children’s Specialist” at a local library! Really excited about it. Finally! Job hunting (and writing a million cover letters) really sucks. The job should be a lot of fun and I can’t wait to get started.
I’ve done a bit of decorating around the house for Thanksgiving and also got some new curtains in our kitchen. That bookcase works as a make shift pantry for us. Not ideal, but the new curtains make me hate it a little less. We also got a blanket of snow the other day and I’ve been catching up on my Project Life album.
I went to a used book sale and came home with a haul for only $4. Afterwards I had lunch with a friend who I hadn’t seen in awhile. We got to the restaurant at 11:00 and although we finished eating around 12:00, we didn’t leave until 2:00. (Needless to say I left the waiter a good tip for keeping his table occupied so long.) We had a lot to catch up on and it was so nice to chat.
Andy and I also went to see a musical comedy at the university called Lucky Stiff. It’s about a man who has to take the corpse of his dead uncle on a trip to Monte Carlo in order to inherit 6 million dollars from him. It was hilarious. We went to it not knowing that it was a musical and only having a vague idea of the plot. I’m glad we saw it.
Also, this weekend my family rode the train down town to have dinner at the Cheesecake Factory for my mom’s birthday. It was my niece’s first time on the train and she was loving it! She couldn’t stop grinning and saying, “We’re going to Salt Lake City!” So dang cute.
How have you all been?

October Photo A Day Roundup
This month I participated in Fat Mum Slim’s Photo A Day project. This project actually paired perfectly with the Project Real Life class I’m taking right now. Both helped me focus on documenting the every day things that make up my life- it’s not all just pretty pictures and perfect settings. It’s life like I see it all the time. I love this. So here’s a roundup of all the photos I took this month.
Day 1. Where You Stood– I walked out to the garden on this day to survey all the work we had to do in terms of cleaning it out for winter. You’ll rarely find me in shoes if I can help it. Bare feet on the grass are one of my favorite things.
Day 2. Lunchtime– Butternut squash soup, sliced tomatoes and an asian pear. Lunch is my hardest meal to eat. It’s always such a hassle for me to come up with something good. I often skip lunch.
Day 3. This Happened Today– On this day I canned pears with my sister and her friend.
Day 4. What You Read– This is my Google Reader on my laptop. All those are blog posts that I was catching up on reading.
Day 5. Shadow– Ashland sleeping as we sit nearby.
Day 6. I’m Thankful For– I knew this was the prompt for today but didn’t know what I would photograph. As I sat on the bed that morning while Andy sat next to me tying his shoes, Ash walked up for some loves. I realized that sweet interaction was the shot I needed and I took it.
Day 7. Light-I took this photo as we sat at Jeremiah’s waiting for breakfast. I loved the way the light fixture hanging above our table looked and thought a picture from the table looking up might be interesting.
Day 8. Angle– I took this picture while waiting for Trax. I leaned out to try and get the train in the shot as it approached. Sometimes I ride Frontrunner down to Salt Lake and spend a couple of hours in the library.
Day 9. Red– These red apples made the perfect subjects for this prompt.
Day 10. Emotion– Andy, happy at dinner on his birthday.
Day 11. Something Close-Up– My coleus were still going strong. I wanted to snap a picture of them before the first freeze killed them off. Coleus is a favorite of mine.
Day 12. On The Table– Bowls of potato soup for everyone. Andy’s parents came down around Corey and Andy’s birthday and brought dinner.
Day 13. Landscape– The mountains are truly fantastic here. I love living so close to them. The sun hit them at and illuminated them with this bright orangey color. I had to take a photo.
Day 14. Makes You Laugh– Nellie was entertaining us with drawings of Andy when she stopped to go hug her brother and pose for a picture.
Day 15. Dinnertime– Squash has been on the menu a lot this month.
Day 16. Something You Wrote– I committed to paper journaling on a regular basis again. I never really stopped doing it but I wanted to try and write something every day like I used to. It’s been fun.
Day 17. Fruit– I was at the SLC library this day when I realized the prompt was fruit. I opened the first cookbook I could find and snapped this photo.
Day 18. Made You Smile Today– Read this book in one day. I couldn’t put it down. This book made me smile, laugh, and cry. Please read it.
Day 19. Letters-My BOO letters set up for Halloween!
Day 20. 4 O’Clock– At 4 O’clock I found Henry enjoying his view from atop the headboard.
Day 21. Calm– A pretty peaceful day spent enjoying time with Andy at home.
Day 22. In Your Town– We have this place called Slackwater. And it’s delicious.
Day 23. The View From Here– This had been my view most of the day as I worked on editing photos for Project Life. Messy crafting table! At least my calendar is organized. Sticky notes are my friend.
Day 24. Weather– We’ve already had our first snow here in Utah, but this shot was taken on a day when it was cloudy but still sunny and nice.
Day 25. People– Nellie with “Grandma Kathy” as she calls my mom. We were asking her to smile but keep her eyes open at the same time- good effort. :)
Day 26. Listening To– Nellie sat and played on my mom’s piano for a while. This is the last photo taken of that piano. It was my mother’s grandfather’s. She couldn’t move it to her new apartment so she gifted it to a very sweet little family in her neighborhood that will hopefully get a lot of use out of it.
Day 27. Morning– Back to mat Pilates every morning. Gearing up to start a 30 day Pilates Challenge.
Day 28. Looking Back– Ash’s name should be Shadow. She’s never far behind and follows us everywhere.
Day 29. Moon– I ran out on the deck in my bathrobe to get this shot early in the morning. I was happy to see that the moon was still plainly visible.
Day 30. Clothes– This is what laundry day looks like at our house. I throw all the clothes on the bed to be folded and Henry promptly parks himself right on top of them. Who can blame him for staking claim on a warm pile of clothes, right?
Day 31. Whatever You Please– I love these knobs and their bright blue color. I got them from Anthropology and have been waiting for Andy to put them on our nightstands.
So I didn’t get all the photos taken on the exact day, but I did get to all the prompts and I found it to be a fun project. I have on my life list that I want to do a 365 project. This was good practice. It was hard to remember to pick up the camera every day!
